Insure Our Future is an international campaign calling on insurance companies to exit coal, oil, and gas in line with a pathway limiting global warming to 1.5°C. We call on insurance companies to immediately stop insuring new fossil fuels and phase out support for existing coal, oil and gas projects.

Why Insurance

Japanese partner: JACSES

Japan Center for a Sustainable Environment and Society (JACSES), joined the Insure Our Future campaign as the first Japanese organization in 2018. JACSES has been engaging with the three Japanese P&C insurance giants, Tokio Marine, Sompo, and MS&AD, to commit to end underwriting fossil fuel projects across the globe. As a result, all three companies have been improving their climate policies step by step, and currently, all three Japanese insurers have committed not to underwrite new coal projects, although partial exceptions still remain and there’s room for improvement.

Calling out leaders and laggards Insurance Scorecard

This is the sixth annual Scorecard on Insurance, Fossil Fuels and the Climate Emergency published by the Insure Our Future campaign. The Scorecard analyses 30 leading primary insurers and reinsurers, assessing their policies on insuring and investing in coal, oil and gas. The report highlights progress and loopholes, calls out leaders and laggards, and identifies challenges and opportunities for the year ahead.
